Academic Appeals

What is an Academic Appeal:

You should complete and submit an Academic Appeal form with supporting evidence if you wish to appeal against an Assessment Board decision on grounds of procedural or other academic irregularities having adversely affected your result.

Examples of procedural or academic grounds for an Academic Appeal include a material administrative error, regulatory irregularity or other material irregularity e.g. that the assessment was not conducted in accordance with regulations for the programme (as set out in the programme handbook) or that the Assessment Board decision does not conform to the University Assessment Regulations.

Academic Appeals will not be considered on personal or medical grounds. If your academic performance for an assessment is adversely affected by personal or medical grounds then you should apply under the Fit to Sit policy at the time of the assessment deadline.

If you were unable to apply at the time of the assessment deadline under Fit to Sit  policy due to exceptional circumstances that prevented you engaging with university at that time then you should submit an Extreme and Exceptional Extenuating CIrcumstances application.

When to submit:

The deadline for submitting an Academic Appeal is 10 working days from the date of your formal Assessment Board results email/letter.

How to submit:

Academic Appeals forms should be submitted via email to academicappeals@gcu.ac.uk only.  The appeal form and guidance is available on the GCU website (here) and at the link at the bottom of this page.
